According To The variety Universal’s “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and Ireland, earning £4.3 million ($5.8 million), according to Comscore.
Sony’s “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle” followed in second place with $4.6 million. Warner Bros.’ “The Conjuring: Last Rites” continued to perform solidly in its second week, adding $3.8 million for a cumulative $16.6 million.
Lionsgate’s “The Long Walk” launched in fourth with $1.5 million, while Disney’s “The Roses” moved to fifth, grossing $1.2 million for a total of $9.9 million. Further down the chart, Universal’s “The Bad Guys 2” placed sixth with $380,851, bringing its total to $17.6 million. Sony’s mockumentary sequel “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” debuted in seventh with £$291,005. Disney’s “Freakier Friday” followed in eighth with $284,080 for $11.5 million to date.
Rounding out the top 10 were Warner Bros.’ “Weapons,” which added $175,772 in ninth place for $15.6 million overall, and Liberator Film Services’ “Next to Normal,” opening at No. 10 with $164,836.
This week brings a wide range of films across the U.K. and Ireland. On Wednesday, Trafalgar Releasing presents “David Gilmour Live at the Circus Maximus, Rome,” a concert film directed by Gavin Elder.
Friday sees the arrival of several films. Sony Pictures brings “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” directed by Kogonada and starring Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell, which will play on more than 300 screens.
Miracle Comms releases Pakistani animated feature “The Glassworker,” while Vertigo Releasing unveils “Queen of the Ring,” a drama starring Emily Bett Rickards, Josh Lucas, Tyler Posey and Walton Goggins. Dartmouth Films contributes the documentary “Conviction: The Case of Lucy Letby,” directed by Daniel Bogado.
Additional entries include Jade Films’ action title “Shepherd Code, The Road Back,” TAPE Collective’s sci-fi film “Can I Get A Witness?,” Magnetes Pictures’ Polish comedy franchise film “Tesciowie 3,” Bakrania Media’s Indian comedy franchise film “Jolly LLB 3,” and “Tape,” from Showalker U.K., a thriller directed by Bizhan M. Tong. Break Out Pictures launches drama-romance “Girls & Boys,” directed by Donncha Gilmore, while Tull Stories presents Fiona Cunningham-Reid’s documentary “Ackroyd & Harvey: The Art of Activism.”
Signature Entertainment rolls out the animated adventure “Diplo: The Mighty Dinosaur” on more than 300 screens, while Anti-Worlds Releasing handles comedy “Ebony & Ivory.” New Wave introduces Cannes-bowing thriller “Ghost Trail,” directed by Jonathan Millet, alongside Netflix’s “Steve,” starring Cillian Murphy. Modern Films releases Neo Sora’s Venice-debuting “Happyend,” while Peccadillo Pictures offers Toronto and Palm Springs winner “Solo.” The weekend highlights include Trafalgar Releasing’s 60th anniversary presentation of “The Sound of Music” in over 300 cinemas, plus a 4K restoration double bill of “Thunderbirds” episodes “Trapped in the Sky” and “Terror in New York City” via Hammer/Icon. ]Rounding out the lineup are CinemaLive’s “Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies” and “Andrea Bocelli: Because I Believe” from Trafalgar Releasing
