According To The variety Independent Film Company (formerly known as IFC Films) has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights to Georgia Bernstein’s debut feature “Night Nurse,” which premiered earlier this year at Sundance.

Set for a July 10 release date, the psychosexual thriller explores a darker side to caregiving. With a cast rounded out by Bruce McKenzie (“Breaking Bad”), Mimi Rogers (“Ginger Snaps”) and Cemre Paksoy (“The Affair”), the film follows a retirement community disrupted by a series of scam calls as a nurse (Paksoy) becomes entangled with her mysterious patient (McKenzie). Bernstein directs from her own script.

“Georgia is an incredibly exciting talent whose debut feature drew us in from the very first frame,” Rachael Labes from Independent Film Company said in a statement to Variety. “It’s rare to encounter such bold and boundary-pushing filmmaking, and we’re thrilled to bring it to audiences this summer.” “I couldn’t be more grateful to the team at IFC for championing ‘Night Nurse’ and bringing it to theaters this summer,” Bernstein said in a statement. “They immediately understood the film’s tone and provocations, and I feel very lucky to be working with a company that has long supported so many of my favorite filmmakers.”

Producers include Bernstein, Edwin Linker, Liane Cunje, Veronica Barbosa and Lucy Rogers. Labes negotiated the deal on behalf of Independent Film Company and Jessica Lacy and Julien Levesque of Gersh on behalf of the filmmakers. Bernstein is repped by Gersh and Entertainment 360.

Previous Independent Film Company releases include “The Babadook,” “Late Night with the Devil,” “Memoir of a Snail” and “Boyhood.”
